Azorean Caramelized Pineapple
This delicious Azorean caramelized pineapple recipe is easy and quick to prepare. It’s one of my all-time favorite fruit sweet delicacies from the Acores. Azorean Caramelized Pineapple, also known as Ananas Caramelizado, is a delectable sweet fruit dish from the Azores Islands of Portugal. This Azorean Caramelized Pineapple dish is one of my favorites since it combines caramelized pineapple slices, sugar, butter, rum, and a hint of cinnamon.

- 1 pineapple peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 3 tablespoons dark rum optional
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract optional
In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
Add in the sugar followed by the cinnamon and stir until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture begins to bubble on the surface.
Add the pineapple slices into the skillet with the sugar mixture, flipping occasionally, until the pineapple is caramelized and the sugar turns dark golden brown, about 12-15 minutes.
If desired, add the rum and vanilla extract and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
Serve the caramelized pineapple as a dessert or a topping for ice cream.
