Queijadas de Leite, Portuguese milk tarts are so good, so sweet, so creamy and so easy to make, it just takes about 30 minutes. This Portuguese milk tarts recipe (Queijadas de Leite) is one of my personal favorite Portuguese desserts and I’m sure once you make it will be yours as well.
From mainland Portugal to the Azores and across the Atlantic to Brazil, these Portuguese milk tart deserts are loved and enjoyed and have become a staple in every Portuguese home.
WHAT ARE QUEIJADAS DE LEITE?
Portuguese milk tarts or as they are referred to in Portuguese, Queijadas de Leite are traditional popular milk tarts that are made with simple ingredients like, milk, butter, eggs, and flour.
You will find these creamy Portuguese milk tarts at every Portuguese celebration and gathering since they are so quick to prepare and delicious. Queijadas de Leite is typically served dusted with some cinnamon powder and some variation of this tart will include some lemon or orange rind.
Ingredients
- 200 grams granulated sugar (1 cup)
- 100 grams all purpose flour (3/4 of a cup)
- 100 grams eggs (2 eggs)
- 50 grams melted butter ( 3 1/2 tablespoons)
- 500 grams milk (2 cups plus 1 tablespoon)
INSTRUCTIONS
- Preheat the oven to 185ºC (365ºF).
- In a bowl add the dry ingredients (flour and sugar) and mix together with a whisk.
- Add eggs one by one and stir, the batter will be thick.
- Add the melted butter and mix together until combined into the batter..
- Pour the milk in a slow steady stream into the batter, stirring constantly until you get a homogeneous mixture which will be liquid not thick.
- Spray pan release into the muffin molds and sprinkle with flour.
- Fill each muffin cup almost to the top, about 1/4 from the muffin cup rim.
- Bake in preheated oven of about 25 minutes or until golden at the top.
- Remove from oven an allow to cool in muffin pan for about 15 minutes.
- Sprinkle with cinnamon and serve.
